The Dogs’ Sanctuary
It took four years to build this shelter, and we worked incredibly hard for it. We would have loved for this project to be a sprint, but it turned out to be a marathon, because we never had all the funds at once.
Although we care for many animals with great effort, without any personal gain and without living off the association’s resources, we are not an NGO with high public visibility, and it was incredibly hard to raise the funds, which came in gradually. We fought hard, weighed and calculated every penny, saved wherever we could, and did the work ourselves instead of hiring construction companies. More than half of what you see here is the result of our own physical labor. With the exception of the fence and the metal frames for the cabins—where we had to involve specialized companies because we simply couldn’t have done it otherwise—the sandwich panel cabins, the little houses, and the enclosures were built by us… in fact, by just one person, who on paper is the President of the Association—a fancy title which, in our case, translates into an enormous amount of physical work.
We have never made compromises and never focused on the things that usually attract the attention of the general public—circus, controversy, or outdated gimmicks. We have always cared only about the safety and well-being of the animals we look after. We have always walked the straight path which, as you know, is the hardest one. But perhaps precisely because of this, we have caught the attention of the people who mattered—those who saw and appreciated what we do, how we do it, and how hard it is for us—and who, one by one, offered their support, either through the companies they represent or as private individuals. Special thanks to two generous big hearted persons who supported us greatly in achieving this.
Dear friends, we would be so happy for you to see this post. To all of you, and to each one individually, we THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts! Donors, sponsors, and volunteers—thanks to you, step by step, brick by brick, we have managed to create this shelter with 20 enclosures, 20 cabins, and a large play area. Recently, we brought the last of the dogs from the old shelter, and you cannot imagine the emotions we felt seeing them all in this beautiful place we have hoped and worked for over the past four years.
Dear ones, dreams do come true when there is hard work, dedication, and transparency. Even if things move slowly, don’t give up—follow your dream and fight for it! Because, as they say, “When you truly want something, the entire Universe conspires to help you achieve it.”
